NHS Young VolunteersFri, 23 Sep 2022The TTS Careers Team welcomed Poppy Horrocks from The Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust to talk to students in the Sixth Form who are interested in volunteering at the hospital. Poppy gave a brilliant overview of the commitment required to be a volunteer and talked about the experiences and insight volunteering can give to students who are hoping to apply for healthcare courses at university. She also stressed how volunteers gain transferable skills such as communication and problem solving which are useful for any career pathway, as well as providing an opportunity for students to do something positive in their community. Mrs Flynn, Director of Careers, commented: “We actively encourage any student considering healthcare careers such as Medicine, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Paramedic Science, Diagnostic Radiography etc. to become NHS Young Volunteers to gain valuable experience in a hospital setting. Thomas Telford students have been volunteering at our local hospital for well over 10 years now, including during periods of lockdown and they have all gained so much from interacting with NHS staff and members of public. The Young Volunteers scheme is a fantastic opportunity – please do get involved!” https://www.sath.nhs.uk/volunteers Images
