Midwife Returns to Thomas Telford School

It was fantastic to welcome back former student Danica Price to Thomas Telford School just before the half term break to speak to Health and Social Care students in year 10 and 6.1 about her role as a midwife. 

Danica spoke passionately about her career journey since leaving Thomas Telford and discussed her role in detail, providing advice, care and support for women and their babies during pregnancy, labour and the early postnatal period.

She gave a fascinating insight into the challenges of working in the NHS as a midwife and spoke to students about what full antenatal care involves, including screening tests, examinations and parenting classes.  Students asked some really good questions about identifying high risk pregnancies and Danica explained how midwives monitor and examine women during pregnancy and birth.  She also stressed how she works in a multidisciplinary team at Princess Royal Hospital and that liaising with agencies and health and social care professionals to ensure continuity of care is also a key part of the role.

Danica gave a really inspiring talk and it was our pleasure to welcome her back to Thomas Telford to share her knowledge and experience with students.
